Research

One of BAI's key objectives is to foster a transversal environment of R&D and advanced research that encourages the collaboration between architects, designers, engineers, technologists, entrepreneurs, specialists, and other technicians with the objective of constructing buildings through the promotion of formal, spatial, typological, and technical solutions conceived from the understanding and critical mastery of new construction systems, from computational design to the use of robotic arms in the context of the so-called “digital crafts.”

At BAI, research will take place in two complementary and closely interrelated ways: on the one hand, through the invention of innovative solutions in collaboration with highly qualified companies in the sector; on the other hand, through the design of buildings or architectural interventions of various scales within the framework of an 'Advanced Projects Laboratory' that will develop, from the outset, real projects, both local, regional and national, as well as international cooperation projects.

Both lines of research, which are approached as complementary modes of working, aim to use new technologies in an innovative, critical, and humanistic way with the objective of constructing the best possible buildings and cities, all within the social and political framework of contemporary societies, which has never been as changing as it is today.

Applied in different fields – collective housing, institutional buildings, rehabilitation and restoration, urban space, urban furnishings, and equipment –, the research will result in buildings constructed through integral architectural and engineering projects, as well as prototypes, types and technical, spatial, and environmental solutions that may be elevated, where applicable, to the category of patents.
