1st BAI ON SITE

BAI ON SITE – Barcelona marked the first event in a new series promoted by the National Center for Robotics and Innovation in Architecture. It offered a direct encounter with the architect, the work, and a debate on industrialization in architecture. This format allowed BAI to present itself in Barcelona while dissecting a building emblematic of the institute’s emerging values. The aim was to combine dissemination, dialogue, and specialized knowledge around a project—whether under development or completed—so participants could immerse themselves in a tangible, emerging reality.
Ricardo Devesa (Director of the Master in Integrated Architectural Design, ETSALS, La Salle, Ramon Llull University) welcomed and moderated the session from a critically rigorous perspective, highlighting the fundamental principles underlying contemporary architectural proposals. Fernando Moral presented BAI as a new institution striving to radically link theory, architectural practice, industry, and innovation.
Bosch Capdeferro and their affordable housing block with a community gym in Sant Pau (Barcelona) formed the core of the session. Ramón Bosch explained the project’s key aspects on screen—from its intellectual genesis to critical construction details—preceding a site visit in its final development phase. Participants saw how the primary components, in this case wood, are precisely assembled while interacting with key elements like the Metro layout and existing residential buildings. The Sant Pau block clearly exemplifies sustainable, agile, and qualitatively distinct industrialization, from its foundation and multifaceted building systems to acoustic and finishing controls, offering participants a comprehensive understanding of contemporary construction processes. The building promises to transform both its neighborhood and the materialization methods of similar projects.
